PARKS
  • Esplanade of Spain: Built on the old pier during the twentieth century. It consists of 6,000,000 tesserae drawing a wavy colorful mosaic. The promenade is more than 500 meters long and has four rows of palm trees, which has become the identity for alicantinos and the symbol for tourism. In the 90s it was restored and renovated. It also known for the as the Promenade des Martyrs, before the Spanish Civil War.
  • Canalejas Park: Located below the Esplanade of Spain. It is characterized by large old trees. At the park entrance it has two decorative fountains and stone sculptures representing lions and dogs.
  • The Palm Grove Park: Located at the southern entrance of Alicante. It has hundreds of palm trees and abundant local vegetation, lake and waterfalls that can be visited in small boats.
  • Parque Lo Morant: The largest city park. Located in the north of the city of Alicante where one can find pine forests, playground, picnic areas, a small lake and sports areas.
  • Ereta Park: Located on the slopes of Mount Benacantil, and where we can enjoy the spectacular views of the city. From there one can see Barrio de Santa Cruz, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, the renovated wall that works as the Castle entrance, the Port and the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Juan Pablo II Park: It is the third largest park in Alicante. It is located in an area called PAU-1 or new San Blas, oval. It has a children’s area and a number of palm trees.

MUSEUMS
  • Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (Maca): This building was built in the seventeenth century, and inaugurated in 1977. It is the work of the Madrid architects Juan Carlos Sancho and Sol Madridejos. Maintaining the structure of La Asegurada, with the expansion the owners have managed to create an area of ​​over 4,000 square meters distributed in 3 floors which all have natural light that allows a better visualization of the art work. The MACA is Twentieth Century Art Collection donated by the artist Eusebio Sempere Alicante in 1977. Comprised of paintings, sculptures, mixed tecniques and foreign lithographs Spanish artists (Eusebio Sempere and Juana French) and, as Dalí, Picasso, Chillida, Manolo Millares Pablo Serrano, Joan Miró, Kandinsky, Chagall and Vasarely.
  • Gravina Museum of Fine Arts (MUBAG): This museum is dedicated mainly to regional painting and sculpture from the sixteenth century to the early twentieth century. It is located inside the Palace of Count Lumiares. Outstanding works include: Calvary from the 16th century, Rodrigo de Osona, sculpture of San Juan de Dios Salzillo (18th century) and a portrait of Fernando VII of Vicente Lopez, Commoners Castle Antonio Gisbert, Joaquín Agrasot, Lorenzo Casanova Casanova or Fernando Cabrera. His works reflect all the major trends in the nineteenth century: historicism, costumbrismo, portraits, landscapes …
  • Provincial Archaeological Museum (MARQ): honors as “European Museum of the Year” in 2004, thanks to its innovative aesthetics and the use of audiovisual methods. Located in the building of the old San Juan de Dios Hospital, in the neighborhood of El Pla. Inside, one can find archaeological pieces from different times,  from the Stone Age to the Modern Age, the Iberian lady of Cabezo Lucero. 
BEACHES

On the shore, from north to south one can find the following beaches: San Juan, La Almadraba, Albufereta, Postiguet, Agua Amarga, El Saladar, and the island of Tabarca. We also have the Cabo de la Huerta, with a lot of coves: Calabarda, Cantalares, Jews and La Palmera. 

POPULAR EVENTS / FESTIVALS
  • Bonfires of San Juan: Declared of International Tourist Interest. They are held every year from 20th to 24th June and during these days the city is filled with gunpowder, music, celebration and joy. In these five very intense days, you can visit: the opening speech, the plant, verbenas and barracks, parades, the floral offering to the Virgen del Remedio, mascletás, and of course the Cremá-the Valencian word for the burning of paper sculptures.
  • Easter: some of the most famous Easter Sculptures include Our Lady of Sorrows (Virgin of the Penya) Salzillo and the Virgen de la Soledad “La Marinera”, the oldest of the city. The most important Easter Parades are the Palm Sunday, the Ecce Homo sculptures and La Virgen de la Amargura.
  • Santa Faz Pilgrimage: 8 km long pilgrimage that begins at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas (religious) or the City Hall (Civic) and ends at the Monastery of Santa Faz and has been on for about 5 centuries. Often they involved more than 300,000 people, the second most important pilgrimage of Spain, behind the Rocio.
  • Porrate St. Anton: This festival is held in the neighborhood of San Anton from the 13th to the 20th of January in honor of Sant Antoni on the Porquet.

RAILWAY: Currently there are 3 lines in operation connecting the city with its surroundings and nearby towns. These commuter lines are managed by two different operators. One is FGV and Renfe-Operadora, Public Enterprise under the Ministry of Public Works of Spain that has commuter trains in most major Spanish cities, serving with 2 lines and with 3 stations in the municipality of Alicante: Terminal Alicante Station(C1 and C3), San Gabriel Station(C1) and University of Alicante (C3) Station.

It also has long distance lines: AVE (Alicante-Madrid), ALVIA (Alicante-Galicia / Asturias / Cantabria), EURMED (Alicante-Valencia-Barcelona), Talgo (Murcia-Alicante-Valencia-Barcelona-Montpellier).
