Economy in Qatar

For centuries the economy in Qatar had been very weak, with a focus on fishing and pearl collecting. After discovering oil there was a complete transformation, meaning vast increases in living standards and social services for citizens. Currently, oil and natural gas are exported, the latter being the third largest reserve in the world. Qatar has the highest GDP per capita.

Climate in Qatar

Similar to other countries in the region, Qatar has a desert climate which reaches very high temperatures in some periods (up to 50 degrees Celsius) and more moderate (20-30 degrees Celsius) during the rest of the year. Rainfall is scarce with an average of 77mm per year.

To enter Qatar you need to have a passport with a minimum of 6 months validity, as well as an entrance visa. You can check all the necessary information on the Interior Ministry of Qatar’s website.

Other recommendations when thinking about moving to Qatar

You should be aware of social and religious customs in the country, such as the ban on eating, drinking or smoking in public during Ramadan.

  • Homosexuality is illegal and prosecuted.
  • Pork is prohibited.
  • You can not take pornographic material into the country.
  • Your Spanish driving license will cover you for a 7 day period, then you will need to request a special driving permit.
